Opened in January 2022, Le 19M stands as a monument to craftsmanship and artistic excellence. Designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti, this 25,500 m² space is located at the crossroads of the 19th arrondissement of Paris and Aubervilliers, reflecting its mission to bridge tradition and innovation. The name itself carries deep meaning: “19” references both its geographic location and one of Gabrielle Chanel’s lucky numbers, while “M” evokes key themes such as Mode (fashion), Mains (hands), Métiers d’Art (artistic trades), Maisons (houses), and Manufactures (workshops).
A Home for Chanel’s Métiers d’Art
At the heart of Le 19M are 11 prestigious artisan Houses working for Chanel and other high-end brands. These include legendary workshops specializing in embroidery, pleating, featherwork, shoemaking, millinery, goldsmithing, and more. By bringing these ateliers under one roof, Chanel ensures the preservation and transmission of centuries-old skills while fostering collaboration between artisans and contemporary designers.
The Galerie du 19M – A Window into Artistic Expertise
A key feature of the site is La Galerie du 19M, an exhibition space open to the public, showcasing the exceptional savoir-faire of its resident ateliers. Through rotating exhibitions, live demonstrations, and interactive workshops, visitors can witness firsthand the meticulous craftsmanship behind haute couture, jewelry, and textile arts. The gallery also partners with international institutions, creating dialogues between traditional techniques and global artistic expressions.
A Space for Learning and Cultural Exchange
Beyond exhibitions, Le 19M offers a diverse program of conferences, masterclasses, and hands-on workshops, making it an invaluable resource for students, designers, and curious visitors. Whether learning embroidery techniques from skilled artisans or attending talks on sustainable fashion, guests gain a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and its evolving role in contemporary creation.
An Architectural and Ecological Statement
Le 19M is not just a creative hub—it’s a work of architectural innovation. Rudy Ricciotti’s design integrates a woven concrete façade, echoing the delicacy of textile craftsmanship. The space is also a green sanctuary, featuring a garden with a wide variety of plants and beehives, reinforcing its commitment to biodiversity and eco-conscious design.
A Café Celebrating Artisanal Flavors
Visitors can extend their experience at Le Café du 19M, where Laurine Marty, a chef trained under renowned culinary figures, prepares seasonal dishes and handcrafted drinks. The café has become a favored spot for creative professionals and digital nomads, offering a welcoming environment to relax, work, or discuss ideas over locally sourced food.
