Just a stone’s throw from the renowned Guimet Museum, the Hôtel Heidelbach stands as a testament to the elegance of Belle Époque architecture. This elegant private mansion, originally the residence of Alfred-Samuel d’Heidelbach and his wife, Julie Picard, was a sanctuary for their cherished collections of Chinese imperial furniture and artifacts. Today, it is an integral part of the National Museum of Asian Arts – Guimet, established in 1991.
The Art of Tea and Imperial Splendor
Upon entering the Hôtel Heidelbach, visitors are greeted by an ambiance steeped in refinement. The atrium, positioned at the top of the grand staircase, illuminates the museum’s impressive collections, showcasing a range of photographs, letters, musical scores, and stunning furnishings. Notably, the museum houses a genuine tea pavilion, added in 2001, designed by Nakamura Masao and built by master artisans from Japan. This pavilion offers an immersive experience into the Japanese tea ceremony, allowing visitors to appreciate the delicate beauty and art of living without leaving Paris.
A Unique Venue for Events
The Hôtel Heidelbach isn’t just a museum; it serves as a confidential venue for special events. The property can host up to 100 guests for various functions, from seminars to intimate dinners. The Pelliot Room, once the dining room, is adorned with intricate woodwork and tapestries, accommodating gatherings for both formal and informal events. Meanwhile, the beautifully landscaped Japanese garden and its authentic tea pavilion provide a serene backdrop for cocktails and celebrations.
A Serene Japanese Garden
In 2018, the garden of the Hôtel Heidelbach underwent renovations, emerging as a tranquil oasis adorned with cherry trees, bamboo, and bonsais. This 450-square-meter green space invites visitors to escape the hustle and bustle of Paris, offering a peaceful retreat where the scents of Asia linger in the air. The garden serves as a perfect extension of the Guimet Museum, harmonizing the artistry of nature with the elegance of Asian heritage.
