Overview

Nestled in the heart of Paris’ 17th arrondissement, Citéco offers a fresh and engaging way to explore the world of economics. Through interactive exhibits, historical insights, and immersive experiences, visitors can uncover the fundamental principles shaping our daily lives.

The Hôtel Gaillard

Citéco is set within the magnificent Hôtel Gaillard, a 19th-century architectural treasure originally built by banker Émile Gaillard. Designed in a neo-Renaissance style reminiscent of the Loire Valley châteaux, the building later served as a Banque de France branch before transforming into a museum that seamlessly blends history with modern innovation.

An Engaging Permanent Collection

The museum’s main exhibition is structured around six engaging themes:

  1. The Concept of Exchange – Why do we trade? How does money facilitate commerce and specialization?
  2. Key Economic Players – From individuals to global corporations, who shapes the economy?
  3. Market Mechanisms – How do different markets function, from employment to finance?
  4. Economic Instability – What triggers financial crises and economic fluctuations?
  5. Regulation & Governance – How do institutions maintain economic balance and stability?
  6. Banking & Currency Treasures – A fascinating collection of historical coins, banknotes, and rare monetary artifacts housed in a former vault.

Designed to be accessible and interactive, the exhibition features multimedia displays, hands-on activities, and multilingual support in French, English, and Spanish.

Temporary Exhibitions for a Fresh Perspective

Citéco also hosts dynamic temporary exhibitions, offering visitors fresh perspectives on economic and societal themes. Currently, “Allez hop, au travail!” explores the evolving landscape of work and management.

Coming in autumn 2025, a new immersive children’s exhibit will take young visitors on a journey through the evolution of money, from ancient trade systems to digital currencies of the future.
