This innovative, late-20th-century park in Paris’ 15th arrondissement captures the essence of urban nature and is a contemporary testament to design and imagination.
With its vantage point over the Seine, it seamlessly integrates the river’s presence into its landscape, enhanced by interactive water features that delight all ages.
Conceived by celebrated architects and landscape designers including Alain Provost, Gilles Clément, and Jean-Paul Viguier, the park is known for its diverse, themed gardens and extensive facilities.
Historical Footprint of Innovation: From Industry to Green Space
The Javel neighborhood was once a fishing village and later a hub for industrial transformation. In the 19th century, the area became synonymous with the production of disinfectant bleach, which took its name, “eau de Javel,” from this very location.
Industrial growth continued with André Citroën’s automotive factory, which thrived until the late 20th century, producing iconic Citroën cars, including the famed DS model.
After the factory relocated, the city transformed this site into a park, officially opening André-Citroën Park in 1992 as a rejuvenated, green landmark.
Themed Gardens and Greenhouses: A Feast for the Senses
The park’s layout invites discovery through three main thematic areas: the White Garden (Caroline Aigle), the Black Garden (Eugénie Djendi), and the central large green space that serves as the park’s social heart.
Each garden boasts distinct plantings, such as rare trees, exotic plants, and spaces with dedicated themes like movement, planetary elements, and the five senses.
There are also two expansive greenhouses, where one houses tropical plants, and the other, Mediterranean vegetation, forming a fascinating contrast in textures and colors.
Family-Friendly Features and the Generali Balloon
Ideal for visitors of all ages, the park has a range of activities, including interactive play areas in the White and Black Gardens, with spaces designed for ball games, ping-pong, and slides.
The Generali hot-air balloon, a major highlight, offers a breathtaking, panoramic view of Paris from 150 meters above the ground, with the balloon’s illumination colors indicating daily air quality.
